POEM OF THE MONTH

fiona
Finoa Lien reading her poem from the recently released Mendocino County Youth Anthology Skies of a Dream.
The reading took place at Gallery Books in Mendocino and featured youth readers from Mendocino,
Fort Bragg, Albion, and Point Arena.

Skies of a Dream

For a second I would be a star above the sky
For a minute I would be a cloud,
For an hour I would be a sun,
For a day I would be a moon

As time goes by I start to fly,
For a month I would be a sky,
For a year I would be the gods of the planets
For a decade I would be a bird
For a century I would be magical
As I am an island girl I shall keep a secret
When I fly it’s like a dream machine

But when I grow, I sparkle like the sun and moon
and dance with the rhythm and tunes
As it echoes
I start to let go of my nightmares

As this goes on
I just love this dream,
but this is really like time and night,
days and dreams and peace

As I go on and on
It’s like the falling stars
Songbirds sing so bright and nice
As I look, I start to cry
As more and more I start to fly
As I fly I see the stars up in the sky
And when I looked, I see time flies
As water
as crystals of fire
as flames
as colors
as rainbows

Thank You

to a poet-teacher

Thank you for making our word, our thought
Thank you for giving us song, giving us note
Thank you for sun in the world
Thank you for light
Thank you for dark
Thank you for making us see poetry is the key
Thank you for opening our hearts
Thank you for everything
