Martha Shaughnessy

Martha Shaughnessy, account executive at Atomic Public Relations.

Martha benefited from California Poet in the School Grace Grafton's presence in her classroom from second through eighth grade as a student in the San Francisco Unified School District. She reconnected with the organization when promoting the Hearts in San Francisco project in 2004. After working in a pro bono public relations position, she joined the board in Summer 2005 and currently serves as Treasurer.

In her professional life, Martha brings four years of media
relations, launch and special events experience for consumer,
arts/entertainment and technology clients. Known for delving deep into each client's industry and researching the media who cover it (and finding those who should be), Martha's voracious reading paired with the ability to analyze information into useful trends and potential angles elevates her client's story in the minds of media. She is especially in tune with the cultural and social impact of a client's product or service, understanding that providing the right context is the key that can sell a story.

Prior to Atomic, she worked at Landis Communications Inc. where she represented NBC Entertainment (promoting the hit Bravo show "Queer Eye for the Straight Eye" and daytime drama "Passions" among others); consumer technology clients such as CafePress.com and ebates; arts/entertainment clients the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, Bay Area Discovery Museum, modern dance troupe ODC San Francisco, California College of the Arts, San Francisco Performances, Hearts in San Francisco and California Poets in the
Schools; and consumer brands Cold Stone Creamery, The North Face and Whole Foods Markets.

Martha was born and raised in San Francisco, and graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in cultural anthropology from Cornell University.
