Beth Taylor-Schott has been a poet-teacher with California Poets in the Schools since 2003. She has been involved in teaching for over 22 years and has taught all ages, from Sunday school for pre-schoolers to weekend workshops for adults. Before joining CPITS, she taught Art History and Writing at the college level for twelve years at Berkeley, USC, and UCSB. In 2002 Beth started her own life coaching business, This Life Coaching. Beth often works as a writing coach. Many of her clients have been published authors.

Beth earned her Ph.D. in Art History from Berkeley in 2000. She is a fellow of the South Coast Writing Project and has participated in the Santa Barbara Summer Poetry Workshop. Last summer, Beth was awarded a fellowship to the Santa Barbara Writers Conference through a Community of Voices poetry contest.

Beth began writing poetry as soon as she could write. Although she won poetry contests in high school, she stopped admitting that she wrote poetry while she was in graduate school, a process she has been recovering from ever since. In fact, she joined Poets-in-the-Schools because she knew it would force her to admit that she was a poet. She reads her poetry locally, participates in a crafting group lead by Perie Longo, and has been published in the Carleton Observer, the SCWriP Anthology and the Mindfulness Bell. Beth currently writes art reviews and features for the Santa Barbara Independent.
